Product: Aplicap
Description
Ketac Bond Aplicap, manufactured by 3M ESPE, is a fast-setting glass ionomer cement supplied in capsules and has a dense consistency. The feature of the material to chemically bond to enamel and dentin provides for gentle preparation. Ketac Bond Aplicap releases fluoride ions and is radio-opaque. Ketac Bond Aplicap is available in one color, yellow. Each capsule provides 0.1ml of usable material.
For details on all products mentioned below please refer to the corresponding Instructions for Use.
Instructions for Use should not be discarded for the duration of the product use.
Areas of Application
- Base linings under composite and amalgam
- Extended fissure sealing without acid etching
- Core build-ups
Preparation
Only remove the carious substance; no undercuts required. Protection of the Pulp Cover areas in close proximity to the pulp by applying spots of a hard-setting calcium hydroxide material, such as Alkaliner™, manufactured by 3M ESPE, in order to protect the pulp from irritation.
Conditioning
For optimal chemical bonding to the teeth the smear layer produced in the preparatory steps must be carefully removed by applying Ketac Conditioner, manufactured by 3M ESPE, to the prepared surfaces and allowing the substance to react for 10 sec.
Then rinse with copious amounts of water. Blow the cavity dry in only 2-3 short intervals with water and oil-free air or dab dry with cotton pellets. Do not over-dry! The cavity should be just so dry that the surface has a matt shiny appearance. Excessive drying can result in post-operative sensitivity after filling. Avoid further contamination.
Activation
Activate capsules for 2 sec with the Aplicap Activator, manufactured for 3M ESPE, ensuring to completely depress the Activator for 2 sec. This ensures that all of the liquid is pressed from the liquid container into the powder.
Mixing
Mix the capsules at approx. 4,300 rpm, in a high frequency mixing device such as CapMix (for 10 sec) or the RotoMix rotating mixer (for 8 sec), and apply with the Aplicap Applier, all products manufactured by or for 3M ESPE. Both the Aplicap Activator and the Aplicap Applier are color-coded in red.
Caution
Delays between the steps of activation, mixing, and application must be carefully
avoided, since the application of the material may be impeded or prevented by
the material beginning to set.
Application
Process Ketac Bond Aplicap at room temperature (20-25°C/68-77°F). Ensure that there is no contamination from water, saliva, etc, entering the working area for the entire duration of application; the working area must be kept dry. Aesthetic fillings can be produced with the so-called sandwich technique, in which the glass ionomer cement base filling replacing the dentin is covered with a layer of composite material according to the following procedure:
Apply the desired quantity of Ketac Bond Aplicap with a suitable instrument leaving the margins of the dentin exposed. After the Ketac Bond Aplicap material has set, etch both enamel and lining and then apply the desired composite using a suitable bonding material. Process this material in accordance with manufacturer recommendations. Lining located below amalgam does not have
to be etched and bonded.
For fissure sealing and core build-ups, fill the cavity using a suitable instrument. Wait a minimum of 4 minutes from start of mixing prior to commencing preparation of the hardened Ketac Bond Aplicap with rotary instruments. Ketac Bond Aplicap adheres to metal instruments. Therefore, residual quantities of the cement should be washed off with cold water before they set on the instrument.
Times
At an ambient temperature of 23°C/74°F and 50% relative humidity the
following times apply: min : sec
Mixing (RotoMix) 00 : 08
or high frequency mixer,
e. g. CapMix 00 : 10
